Westminster starts the year with a street parade through central London. London Parade 2027 is on Friday 1 January, from 1pm to 4.30pm. General spectators can watch free from the streets; the organiser also offers separately ticketed grandstand options.

Route and viewing

The procession starts by The Ritz on Piccadilly and follows Piccadilly, Regent Street St James's, Pall Mall, Trafalgar Square and Whitehall, finishing by Parliament Square. The route is about 2.2 miles. Green Park and Piccadilly are near the start, Trafalgar Square is a busy central stretch, and Whitehall leads towards the finish.

What to expect

The organiser says more than 8,000 performers are expected, including marching bands, cheerleaders, dancers, giant balloons, stunt displays, heritage vehicles and floats representing London's boroughs. The 2027 participant order has not been published, so names and running order may still change.

Getting there

Use public transport and check TfL before travelling: streets along the route close for the parade, and New Year's Eve operations can affect central London into New Year's Day. For the start, use Green Park or Piccadilly Circus; for Trafalgar Square, use Charing Cross or Leicester Square; for the finish, use Westminster.

The other procession, and one more evening

The City has an older parade of its own, the Lord Mayor's Show, on 14 November. And Kew's Christmas light trail runs until 3 January, if the holiday wants one more evening out.

The route is long enough that the choice of viewing point matters more than arriving at one exact minute. Piccadilly and Green Park give the start of the show; Trafalgar Square gives the densest atmosphere; Whitehall is the approach to the finish. The public can watch from the street at no charge, while a grandstand ticket is a different, reserved-seat experience.
