Merton holds its fireworks in two parks on two nights: Wimbledon Park on Bonfire Night itself, Thursday 5 November, and Morden Park on Saturday 7 November. Each night has two separate shows set to music, an early one for younger children and a later one, with a funfair, a street food village and bars on site.

Times

The timetable is the same at both parks. Gates and the funfair open at 5.15pm, the first show is at 6.45pm, the gates open for the second show at 7.15pm, the second show is at 8.30pm, and the funfair closes at 10pm.

Tickets

You book one of the two shows, not the whole evening. On 13 October an adult ticket (16+) cost £15.90, a child's (5–15) £11.66 and a family ticket for two adults and two children £48.76, fees included, through See Tickets. The council says the shows sell out and advises booking ahead.

New this year

An observation wheel with views across south London, with booking details still to come, and what the council calls big-name DJs on the night. Neither the wheel's price nor the DJs have been announced yet.

Getting there

Wimbledon Park is next to Wimbledon Park station on the District line. Morden Park is a short walk from Morden South station and about fifteen minutes on foot from Morden, at the end of the Northern line. Ticket holders are emailed the event information close to the date, and the council's fireworks page has maps and directions.

Other displays that week

The same Thursday, Coram's Fields in Bloomsbury has a free 6pm display for children and the adults with them. On the Saturday, while Morden Park has its turn, Battersea Park and Blackheath have theirs.

Programme

5.15pm
Gates and funfair open for the first show.
6.45pm
First fireworks show, the one suited to young children.
7.15pm
Gates open for the second show.
8.30pm
Second fireworks show.
10pm
Funfair closes.

Book the show, not the park. Both nights run the same two displays an hour and three-quarters apart, and the council itself points families to the early one, so for most households the question is only which night: a Thursday at Wimbledon Park or a Saturday at Morden Park. The Thursday is Bonfire Night proper, when most of London's big displays are still waiting for the weekend, so Wimbledon Park is one of the few places to see fireworks on the fifth itself.
